Extensions and Refurbishment Design
Bridge, Burton and Trent Care Home, or ‘BBT’ as it is more affectionately known, consists of three buildings to make up one large care home and is located just outside Burton-on-Trent, Derbyshire.
As part of the Clients strategic plan ‘BBT’ was in need of refurbishment and modernisation.
Torside Building Consultants was instructed to act as Lead Consultant to undertake a programme of refurbishment and modernisation as well as a new extension to bring the buildings up to the exceptional standard of their other care homes.
Torside Building Consultants provided internal layout designs for all three buildings to ensure the plans were in line with current regulations and the client’s operational requirements. This is included extending one of the buildings in three different areas to create additional bedrooms and facilities.

In the role of Lead Consultant, Torside orchestrated the Design Team of other professional services including architectural, structural and services engineers to fully design and produce tender documents for the first phase of works.
Torside were instrumental in the tendering process for contractors to provide accurate and competitive quotes as well as assisting client instructions for commercial kitchen fitouts and nurse call systems to provide accurate layout plans and associated costs.
On this particular project, three extensions were designed to include sufficient wards, facilities and a commercial kitchen install to serve all three buildings at Bridge, Burton & Trent Care Home.
